JUSTINE’S
“COMMON SENSE” HEALTH TIPS:
1.
Keep a balance and moderation in
whatever you do, drink or eat. - foods (protein, fat,
carbohydrates), liquids, exercises... Too much or too little of a good thing
can also harm you.
2.
Drink clear water regularly
(for better absorption) –
Drink 1/2 of our body weight
in ounces, which is the amount of water loss per day through urination,
elimination and perspiration. If we drink tea or coffee, take medications,
exercise, expose ourselves to the sun or winter coldness, or are on the
plane, we'll need more water. REMEMBER tea and coffee (incl. decaf or herbal
teas) are diuretics and dehydrate our body. Drink water regularly and thirst
signals will come back. Excessive water drinking also causes the off-balance
and dysfunctions of the body.
Like
the earth, our body is made of at least 2/3 of water. Dehydration is the
number one cause of most illnesses and body pain. Water is needed to keep
all body systems supple, mobile, functioning and flowing (incl. muscles,
bones, nerves, vessels, veins, blood, skin, brain, heart, lungs, digestive
organs). High/low blood pressure, heart disease, headaches, digestive
dysfunctions, respiratory disorders, brain diseases, arthritis,
musculoskeletal pain, skin diseases are the direct results of dehydration
among others.
3.
Spread the risks –
Eat everything (unless we
have a medical problem) to obtain a variety of nutrients and reduce the
intake of the same types of harmful toxins. Remember, everything nowadays
including health food products contains a variable degree of toxins, but we
still need to eat and drink to survive. So eat everything but don’t forget
to read the “labels” of everything we put in our mouth to reduce harmful
effects.
4.
Keep our posture straight –
Anatomically, our body needs to be straight, vertical, horizontal and
symmetrical in order to be pain free. During our life, sleeping posture
(sleeping on the sides or on the stomach), standing and sitting posture,
sports, exercises, work posture, and other one-sided habit and activity have
gradually put our body out of its original straight line position. When our
body is no longer straight and balanced, we will experience gradually
increased shifting of the body parts and physical pain, from head to toes.
The list of illnesses and physical pain coming from this source is long. A
skillful osteopath can help re-shape the shifted and malfunctioned body back
to its original position and functioning.
5.
Eliminate our stress by "accepting" and "going with the flow"
- MENTAL STRESS is a key and direct contributor to all illnesses and body
pain. When one is suffering or under stress, all body systems and organs
harden and seize up instantly and throughout the duration of the stress,
further contributing to the stiffness, swelling, and restriction of one's
body/organ functions and mobility.
Consider the following philosophy of
Anthony Hopkins: "My philosophy is:
It's none of my business what people say of me and think of me. I am what I
am and I do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. And it makes
life so much easier. - Anthony Hopkins"
"BE and let other BE. No expectation, no
deception. Go with the flow. And life will be stress-free - Justine Vo" If one still suffers, one
still tries to change things, events and people one CANNOT change. Change
"our view" and all things and all people will change before our eyes.
Acceptance and no expectation, a simple step to achieving happiness and
peace, and a healthier body and mind
6.
“No pain no gain” Myth –
Our
body gives us lots of signals before it goes into dysfunction mode. If
during exercise the body feels tired, stiff, and if the pain starts to
occur, it is screaming for us to “stop” whatever we are doing. If we keep
going, the tears and injury will become more serious. Therefore, increasing
our physical activities and stretching gradually within our comfort zone and
ability will avoid lots of severe physical problems and injuries.
